My experience was pretty seamless. The only difference in renting my car in Fargo vs other places was that I needed to go to the rental counter in the airport rather than go out, choose a car and finish the transaction on the way out. Maybe having a sign telling me to stop at the rental desk before heading out to the car would have been helpful. The person at the counter was friendly and I had no problems.

I spent 4 days in the Fargo/Sisseton area last week, and rented a car from National at the airport. The staff at the counter were exceptionally friendly and anxious to help. The process for getting my car was very quick and I had my car within a matter of a few minutes.
I rent from National a lot and normally am very pleased with their service and program. In this particular instance, I tried to reserve a car at the Fargo, ND airport over 3 weeks in advance and they were sold out. I checked back regularly and called but they did not make any adjustments for the demand which required me to find a rental car at an off site location. When I arrived, they actually had a car so I had to cancel my other rental. I was disappointed that the booking tool was incorrect and they failed to make any adjustments to meet demand both of which cost me a lot of extra time. I guess Fargo, ND is the new hotspot for summer vacations - make sure to plan accordingly.
The car itself (Jeep Wrangler) was exceptionally clean and drove very well. Upon return, the staff again were very courteous and the check-out process took less than 5 minutes.
Staff was really friendly and almost as efficient as Emerald Aisle.
